MRA Regatta Jan 15 - 16 2022
Hawthorn next major regatta sortie will be the 2 day Rutherglen regatta in early January. Those attending should book accomodation for the nights of Friday 14th and Saturday 15th January.
The Club’s Rowing Development Chair has the following plans for RD sessions leading up to Christmas.
From Tuesday 30th November on the usual development days through December the aim is to provide opportunity for members to be assessed & combinations to be tried for regular crews rather than constantly using scratch crews at regattas.
Initially the plan is to consider.
Those members who want to commit to racing on a regular basis.
Skill & age related squads.
Raising the standard of the less experienced to strengthen the competitiveness of the club.
Encourage flexibility with people being equally competent in both sculling & sweep rowing. Those keen on singles to let us know.
Plan for combinations of multiple entries at regattas & where possible always include eights.
Specific requests for those who want to row together would be taken into account.Although we may not always be able to accommodate.
Set standards of procedure on boat availability to ensure less time wasted on training sessions.
Nominate a person/s to coordinate squads to ensure crews know their training is organised.
It is important to accept that people have lives outside rowing & can't always be available so by having squads, changes are easier to manage.
It is also important to accept that as our club has grown competition for seats produces better results.
Hawthorn as a club tries to help members enjoy their rowing offering opportunities from beginners to the highest standard each can achieve.
There is a place for those who either can't commit or prefer to be social rowers however as the club is committed to racing use of equipment has to be given some priority.
In addition during these trials we will require confirmation of those prepared to go to Rutherglen so that crews can be selected allowing time to prepare for the regatta.
We can promote that Rutherglen is great for members to enjoy each other's company as it is generally the only weekend away together.
We also encourage members to check the regatta program for the season to be aware of what races are available so that planning can be long term
