August '22 Bow Ball Bulletin

Welcome to a new monthly Hawthorn Rowing Club newsletter.

Following each committee meeting the Bow Ball Bulletin (BBB) will be published to keep members informed of latest news from the ”pointy end” of the club.

All Members are invited to submit details of any news, photos or activities relevant to the membership by emailing your information to bowballsubmissions@hawthornrowingclub.com prior to the 3rd Wednesday of each month.


HRC Management

The new elected committee (left) convened for its first meeting on August 17th.

Additional club responsibilities decided at the first meeting of the new committee on 17th August are outlined below:

Head Coach: Role to be recruited ASAP by sub committee including: Captain, President, Rob Flocas & George Keon-Cohen

Rowing Development Committee: Captain, V. Captain, Head Coach, JD Coach

RV Delegate: George Keon-Cohen

House Committee: James Lyon with Pat Freeland-Small, Alan Purton and Rob Flocas to assist with boat repairs

Social Committee: Ruth Oliver

Communications & Bow Ball Bulletin: Pat Freeland-Small (Contibutions to: bowballsubmissions@hawthornrowingclub.com)

Regatta Program

The first 4 regattas for the club this season will be the Saltwater at Essendon on Sept 3, (Quads only) followed by Bendigo Sprints - October 15th, Head of the Goulburn - October 22 and Melbourne Head - November 19th.

The Club would like to boat a Women’s and a Men’s 8 for both Goulburn and the Melbourne Heads so start preparing with training rows.

Captain will put out a call for entries 10 days prior to each regatta. Full regatta details are in the RV Regatta Calendar


Planning for 2022 Head of the Yarra on November 26th is well underway. The crew cap of 180 was reached within 1st hour after opening of entries.

HOTY committee is monitoring progress on the main sewer works in Creswick Street with hope that the 100 crews on waitlist may be accommodated on race day.

Ensure you keep the date free to assist the club in this all-hands-on-deck club showcase.

New Staging

Works on the new staging are progressing. Expected finish date is now September 9th.

In the meantime a workable fleet is available for use from temporary facilities at PowerHouse.

Clubhouse can still be accessed with your fob for gym and ergo use.
