Congratulations to the 24 members who participated and kicked off the season in style. The regatta featured multiple of our members including our junior, youth and senior members. Big thanks to Guy for coxing, Vic for towing, Simon and Melissa for the photos and Steve Sheppard for being the Boat Race Official! Below is a summary of the results.

World Masters Regattas - Brandenburg

14 of our senior members raced at the World Masters Regatta in Brandenburg Regatta. The regatta had mixed conditions including one day of cancelled races and Ballarat-esque type conditions but we had great results nevertheless. I’ve included a snapshot of some of the top performances below.

Regatta EOIs

Thank you for everyone who has sent me their EOIs for Head of the Barwon.
The next two regattas are the Bendigo Sprint Regatta (480m) on the 19th October and the Foot of the Goulburn (5.2km) on the 26th October. If you’d like to compete in these regattas, please find the forms below. Please fill the form by the 9th and 16th October respectively.


Australian Indoor Rowing Championship

Hawthorn will be hosting as a hub for members (awaiting confirmation for other clubs) on the 26th October.
The events there are is 1 minute, 500m, 1000m, 2000m and 4x500 Relay.

Rowing
Development

Rowing Development on Tuesdays and Thursdays will begin on the week of the 10th of October. Keep an eye on WhatsApp regarding any updates.

Simon has also posted out a structured Training Program on the RD WhatsApp. This will be printed out weekly downstairs and upstairs on the whiteboards.


Monthly Brunches

The Hawthorn Youthies are organising a monthly buffet brunch after Rowing Development on the first Sunday of each month, first one being 6th October. Toasties, pancakes and other delicious food will be provided for $5 per person. All proceeds to go to their accommodation and transport to States and Nationals.


Club Gear

The club shop is open for outer garments. This includes Hoodies, Fleece, Spray Jacket and a Gilet.

HOTY 2024 Volunteering

Thank you to the 48 people who have already volunteered to help out at Head of the Yarra.

A reminder to those of you that haven't responded - volunteering is a component of your membership and we really need your assistance!

Other Clubhouse Updates

Gym Upgrade

Max Currie has upgraded upstairs gym has been rearranged and upgraded. This includes a new Concept2 Bike Erg, new dumbbells (3kg, 4kg, 5kg), new gym mats and a new cage which contains multiple machines. Thank him next time you see him!

New Coffee Machine

A new coffee machine has been purchased. Coffees will cost $3 each which can be paid by EFTPOS in the club.

Damage/Incident Reports

Just a reminder to make sure you report any incident reports (boat/oar) to the Captain. This is crucial to make sure the fleet stays top notch.


Boroondara Individual Grant

Please find the link to the ‘Individual Participation Grant from Boroondara Council that helps assist members with their membership fees subject to eligibility.   

You must live in the City of Boroondara.

  • Applications are only open to individuals. 

  • You must provide evidence of a current government means-tested card (if you're under 18, your parent or guardian must have one).

Funding won't be provided for:

  • applicants who have received funding through this grant program in the previous 2 financial years

  • participation in sports clubs that may be perceived as portraying a negative image

  • paid participation in commercial based events.
