Head of the Yarra 2025 News

The HOTY committee is steadily working though the details that go into the successful running of the Head of the Yarra 2025 on Saturday 22nd November. For those who have not put it in the diary or emailed Natasha to volunteer, please take a moment to do this.

Pat has refreshed the Head of the Yarra website with a new look and plenty of detail on the event.

Julie has put up Facebook and Instagram pages for crews looking for coxswains and boats and also orphans.

Simon has signed up some really interesting new sponsors including Pontoon Sports, Perfect Balance Rowing (PBR) BR racing and Rowing Trophies, with others to come. Rowing Trophies are donating an oar to each of the fastest female and male crews in 2025.

There will be more food and beverage offerings this year at both the Melbourne start line and the Hawthorn finish line to keep us all fed and watered.

For those with a sponsor lead, please contact Simon at this email address.

There is plenty more happening as well but for now please sign up with Natasha so we can once again prove that the Head of the Yarra is the premier Head Race in our part of the world!

HRC in Top Three RV Masters Premierships

HRC will battle it out with Corio Bay and Yarra Yarra for a chance at the top spot in the RV Masters Premiership Standings. Congratulations to all members who made this achievement possible.

Guy Besley also has a chance at the top spot in the RV Male Coxswain Individual Standings, a huge achievement for an individual cox.

Special mention to Mark Oliver and Catherine Ashley who both finished 5th in the Male/Female RV Masters Individual Standings with 89 points each. A number of HRC rowers also made the top 50 Masters list so a very successful Masters season all round.

Meanwhile in the RV Grade Individual Standings, Max Currie achieved a spot in the top 50 list too, coming 30th with 19 points, another great result for Max who has had a stellar season.

Rainy conditions for our hardy Winter Scullers

Well done to all our hardy HRC rowers who braved the first of the 2025 Winter Sculling Series events at the Albert Park Grand Prix. It was cold and the rain came down in buckets but there were smiles all round.

Monthly Roundup

Congratulations to our President, Chris and his partner Nadia, on the birth of their son! We are sure he will have fun learning to row with his big sister and we look forward to seeing them on the water as soon as they turn four (just kidding!).

Congratulations to all our Learn to Row graduates. We hope your journey with HRC is a long and enjoyable one!

Thank you to Tristan, Greg and Bruce for refurbishing our oars. They look excellent and will no doubt go much faster now!

Thank you to everyone who participated in the HRC Working Bee. The club looks great and we had a fun morning together working hard and having a few laughs along the way!

Winter Rowing

If you plan on rowing early in the morning or past 5pm, please make sure you have lights on your boat.

With the dark mornings and evenings now upon us it is crucial that all rowers who are on the water (and coaches on bikes and in powerboats) between sunset and sunrise have adequate lighting for your safety and the safety of others.

Rowing boats, in restricted visibility and between sunset and sunrise, are required to exhibit:

Two all-round white lights, one attached to the boat at or near the forward or bow end, and one attached to the boat at or near the stern end.

Bow light - A continuous white light is considered acceptable if it is visible in clear conditions from a distance of 1 kilometre.

Stern light - A flashing white light is considered acceptable if it flashes at least once per second and is visible in clear conditions from a distance of 1 kilometre.
