January 24' Bow Ball Bulletin

Melbourne Head

Fantastic outing at the bottom of the Yarra coming back with 4 golds.

Thanks to Steven Sheppard who not only rowed, but also provided our BRO duties for the day. Also to Max who towed the trailer to and from the city.

Also big thank you to our coxes Elke, Julie, Ruth and Guy for their coxing work during the day.

Head of the Yarra 2024

β€œIn a day that will be remembered for extreme heat and the cancellation of a few final events to allow us to deal with a mounting number of heat stressed rowers, the HRC’s HOTY team delivered another exceptional event. Β From the Melbourne start team led by Catherine, our marshalsΒ along the 8 kilometre course led by Linda, our Hawthorn park team with Ruth on landing, Nichola on the bar, Tiffany on soft drinks, Vic and Tristan on the water, Jim’s timing team, Steve on racks, Anna and Kate on volunteer food, Linda with umpires, Robyn on medals, Richard on signs and money, Chris and Julie on front of house, Pat, Β Sue and Richard on AV, Ollie snapping, Grace and Julie W on Socials, Simon and Melissa juggling many issues and I could keep going. NotΒ forgetting Belinda and Fiona who are our ninja’s of the event -Β silently delivering our very timeΒ consumingΒ permits while the rest of us have no clue they are there! And a shout out to Natasha who like Belinda and Fiona silently and efficiently put together the entire volunteer team.

And don’t forget our wonderful sponsors and supporters with Sykes, RivalKit, Bakers Delight, Prime Value, Diggin’ in the Cellars, Bendigo Bank, Regatta Solutions, Rowing Victoria, City of Boroondara, Parks Victoria, Life Saving Victoria and the City of Melbourne.

GetΒ the picture? It was a HRC family and friends affair with everyone in and doing their bit. Β So many of our young members (shout out to Max) andΒ their mates gave usΒ theirΒ energy and in turnΒ learnt what a great event our club has created since inception in 1957. For a group that does not rehearse, we come together one day a year and sync like a bunch of pro’s. Β It is a credit to the club and has given HOTY an international reputation as one of the big three head races in the world, and a deserved reputation within Australia and NZ as the go to event. Go orange army!”
— Rob Perkins, Chair HOTY Committee

RV Schoolboys Regatta

Great job to the junior boys quad who took out second in the Year 8 first division. To put it into perspective, there were 134 year 8 crews!

And no, it was not sunny on the day…

Carrum Regatta

Unfortunately no photos for this regatta (at least that I have on hand at the time of writing) but fantastic results against the typical bipolar Melbourne weather which was changing all day long! We came home with 7 golds, 7 silvers, 5 bronze at the end of the day. Really fabulous results!

Big thanks to Max, Bill and Mark for towing. Congrats on Jack, John and Emmet on their first regatta as well.

Ballarat Regatta

Splendid day at Ballarat with the conditions showing up with 2km winds (for those who don’t know, Ballarat is notorious for having terrible winds which cause mayhem on the lake).

Congrats to the Youthies on taking down the Under 21 Coxed Four which is a Selection Event for the Youth 8 at Nationals!

Barwon Regatta

Sunny day at Geelong filled with a lot of fierce competition. Thanks to Vic for taking the trailer down and to Guy and Natasha for coxing the crews.
